Arthur George M.
: Arthur, a current resident and 57 year old veteran with a history of alcoholism was admitted to Victory House and the Veterans Affairs Grant and Per Diem Program in April 2005. Since Arthur has been a resident of Victory House he has found full time employment where he is the maintenance manager of the company. Arthur has been able to purchase a car, has established a systematic savings program, has a checking account and is maintaining solid relationships with his children. Arthur is a resident of our Single Room Occupancy (SRO) program and has maintained a drug and alcohol free life since becoming a resident of Victory House.

 


Fred T.
: Fred, a former resident and 49year old veteran with a history of mental health and drug and alcohol problems was admitted to Victory House and the Veterans Affairs Grant and Per Diem Program on April 2005. While Fred was a resident of Victory House he found employment with two different trucking companies. Fred ultimately settled with a long distance hauler – driving cross-country – and transitioned from Victory House on May 2005. Fred was a two-time resident of Victory House, the last stay only a few weeks while he set up apartment living arrangements. Fred was a Single Room Occupancy (SRO) program resident and remained drug and alcohol free while a resident of Victory House.

 


Renaldo R.
: Renaldo, a current resident and 45 year old veteran with a history of both mental health and drug and alcohol issues was admitted to Victory House and the Veterans Affairs Grant and Per Diem Program in May 2005. Reinaldo attended sessions at the VA clinic with Paul Casner as part of his treatment program. Reinaldo was able to secure Sociality Security Disability. That, along with his VA medical care, has helped Reinaldo transition successfully from Victory House. Renaldo transitioned from Victory House to living with his family in January 2006.  Reinaldo was a resident of the Single Room Occupancy (SRO) program and remained drug and alcohol free while residing at Victory House.

 


Francisco D.
: Francisco, a former resident and 36 year old veteran with a history of mental health problems was admitted to Victory House and the Veterans Affairs Grant and Per Diem Program in June 2005. Francisco was in process of reestablishing relationships with his estranged family. Francisco transitioned successfully from the Victory House program in August 2005. In those two months Francisco and his wife and family reconciled, found a home in which to live, secured employment while keeping drug and alcohol free. Francisco remains in counseling and is pursuing greater employment utilizing the skills he gained while in the Victory House Program.

 


Todd K.
: Todd, a current resident and 41 year old veteran with a history of drug and alcohol problems was admitted to Victory House and the Veterans Affairs Grant and Per Diem Program on July 2005. Todd is a college graduate – Penn State – but is once again pursuing a college education in electronics at Northampton County Community College. Todd is successfully completing this course of study. Todd has chronic back problems along with a history of mental health issues. However, Todd is maintaining his focus and is intent to complete his plan of action successfully. To date Todd is doing just that.

 


Ken H.
: Ken, a former resident and 47 year old veteran with a history of drug and alcohol and mental health problems came to Victory House from the VA Hospital Rehab in Wilkes-Barre on September 2005. Ken was an asset to our program being helpful, kind and considerate. The end of December, Ken made a deliberate decision to go back to Reading to be with family and friends. We consider Ken to be a success story for Victory House because we allowed him to pursue his options and goals making choices/decisions that were his and would bring him peace and happiness.

 


Tom D.:
Tom, a former resident and 51 year old veteran with a history of mental health and drug and alcohol problems came from a rehabilitation program and was admitted to Victory House and the Veterans Affairs Grant and Per Diem Program on March 2005. He integrated well into our program and was a great asset in telling others about the benefits of how Victory House could help veterans who were down on their luck. Tom transitioned successfully from Victory House to an Oxford House in Bethlehem on August 2005 where he continues to reside.

 


Joe S.
: Joe, a former resident and 58 year old veteran was admitted to the Victory House and the Veterans Affairs Grant and Per Diem Program in August 2004. Joe suffered from alcohol problems because of the death of a daughter because of a drunk driver. Joe also suffered from mental health issues from this incident and contributing factors to his service time in Vietnam. Joe became homeless after the death of a daughter due to a drunk driver. Joe was able to get connected with the VA and through their efforts he was awarded VA Disability because of injuries sustained in Vietnam. Joe is a Purple Heart recipient. Joe has reconnected with his children and his son is currently living with him. Joe was a Victory House Single Room Occupancy (SRO) program resident when he transitioned from Victory House to his own apartment.

 


William B.
: William, a 70 year old veteran was admitted to Victory House and the Veterans Affairs Grant and Per Diem Program in September 2004. William did not suffer from Drug or alcohol or mental health issues. William was our oldest resident. William came to us as a referral of Homeless Support Services. While here we were able to get William enrolled with the Veterans Administration for medical purposes. We also got William connected with senior housing and he secured an apartment through the housing authority. William was a Single Room Occupancy (SRO) program resident when he transitioned to his own apartment in January 2005.


Matthew P.
: Matthew, a 46 year old veteran was admitted to Victory House and the Veterans Affairs Grant and Per Diem Program in October 2004 with a history of history of drug and alcohol abuse and suffered from mental health issues. Matt came to Victory House as a referral from the Lehigh Valley Veterans Clinic. Matt was able to obtain employment and accomplish many aspects of his needed medical attention. Matt had some mental health issues and under duress returned one evening under the influence. With the assistance of his Social Worker form the local Lehigh Valley Veterans Clinic; Matt was admitted to the Veterans Rehabilitation Hospital on February 2005 in Wilkes-Barre. Matt successfully completed rehab and is maintaining a clean and sober life style in the community.
